Overview
The City of Mississauga has been awarded approximately $5.6 million in Government of Canada funding for 54 infrastructure rehabilitation projects through Intake 1 and 2 of the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150). These CIP 150 approved City projects include the rehabilitation of 19 trails, 26 playgrounds and specific renovation projects at Lake Aquitaine Park, Riverwood, South Common Community Centre and the Small Arms Inspection Building.
The federal program celebrates Canada’s 150th anniversary, under the theme Giving back to Canada. The objective of the program is to strengthen public infrastructure and provide economic benefits in communities across Canada.

Intake 1 projects
Riverwood (Ward 6)
Located in central Mississauga and nestled along the banks of the historic Credit River, the 60-hectare (150-acre) Riverwood property is a special place where history, nature, beauty and peace blend together to create an enjoyable and lasting outdoor experience.
With a high volume of programming and extensive public use, Riverwood’s aging infrastructure required redevelopment to meet the current demands of this heritage property.
Environmental Art Gateway
Riverwood’s entry garden was updated to improve the visual sightlines and street presence. Improvements include a new perennial garden, tree plantings and an irrigation system.
An Environmental Art Gateway was also incorporated into the landscape to celebrate Riverwood through a special gathering space. The Pine Sanctuary public art sculpture was installed with feature lighting, accessible concrete plinth, seating and pathways.
Chappell House
Work at the Chappell House was geared towards increasing space for public environmental programs. The main office was converted into a classroom and improvements were made to the furnace to increase energy efficiency.
The building’s landscaping and front entry were redeveloped for heritage character and to improve access for people with disabilities.
Visual Arts Mississauga Building
All-season access to washroom facilities as well as improved emergency exits were added to the Visual Arts Mississauga building.
Lake Aquitaine (Ward 9)
As the Meadowvale Community Centre was redeveloped, the spray pad, dock and connecting trail system were rehabilitated at the same time to provide refreshed amenities and maximize user satisfaction.
Jaycee Park (Ward 3)
The playground at Jaycee Park offers more than traditional equipment in an effort to remove barriers to play for children and caregivers with varying disabilities to ensure equal opportunities for play and interaction. Play spaces were developed to create multisensory experiences while encouraging lasting memories of interactive fun.
Through the principles of universal design, the play site includes rubber surfacing, wheelchair access ramps, transfer stations to allow children access to playground equipment, protective surfaces and adaptive swings.
Playground redevelopments
The CIP 150 playground redevelopments included eight locations listed below. Replacing aging infrastructure allowed the City to redevelop these playgrounds to include state-of-the-art equipment and provide for active living through the addition of outdoor fitness equipment.
Making playgrounds accessible and family oriented is our goal. This includes accessible play equipment, wood fibre surfacing and ramps to provide access to play and fitness areas.

Trail rehabilitations
In order to keep our communities connected and ensure safe accessibility to our parks system, the regular maintenance of trails is required. Reconstruction of the 14 trails at the locations listed below were undertaken to meet the needs of residents for cycling, running, walking and a variety of other activities.

Parc Riverwood (Quartier 6)
Située au centre de Mississauga et sur le bord de la rivière Credit chargée d’histoire, la propriété Riverwood de 60 hectares (150 acres) est un endroit spécial où l’histoire, la nature, la beauté et la paix se mêlent en une expérience en plein air qui est agréable et inoubliable.
En raison du grand nombre de programmes et de la vaste utilisation publique, l’infrastructure vieillissante du parc Riverwood a requis le redéveloppement de ce bien du patrimoine pour faire face aux demandes actuelles.

Le jardin à l’entrée du parc a été mis à jour afin d’améliorer les perspectives visuelles et la présence sur la rue. Les améliorations incluent un nouveau jardin de plantes vivaces, des arbres et un système d’irrigation.
Une Passerelle de l’art environnemental a été également intégrée à l’aménagement paysager pour célébrer l’importance du parc dans le cadre d’un lieu spécial de rassemblement. Une pièce d’art public, la sculpture Le Sanctuaire du Pin, a été installée avec un système d’éclairage, un soubassement en béton d’accès facile, des places assises et des chemins.

Les travaux à la maison Chappell visait à augmenter l’espace pour les programmes environnementaux. Le bureau principal a été transformé en une salle de classe et autres améliorations ont été apportées au chauffage pour améliorer l’efficacité énergétique.
L’aménagement paysager et l’entrée principale de la maison ont rénovés pour maintenir le caractère patrimonial et améliorer l’accessibilité pour les personnes handicapées.

Le bâtiment qui abrite Visual Arts Mississauga a maintenant l’accès aux toilettes en toute saison ainsi que sorties de secours améliorées.

Tandis que le Centre communautaire de Meadowvale a été rénouvé, la fontaine à jets douchants, le quai, et le système de sentiers de raccordement ont été réaménagés parallèlement pour offrir des agréments rafraîchis tout en assurant la satisfaction des usagers du parc.
Parc Jaycee (Quartier 3)

Le terrain de jeux au parc Jaycee offre plus que l’équipement traditionnel d’un terrain de jeux dans un effort d’éliminer les obstacles aux jeux pour les enfants et les soignants ayant des handicaps divers pour assurer l’égalité des chances aux jeux et à l’interaction. Les aires de jeux ont été développés à fournir les expériences multisensorielles tout en encourageant la création des souvenirs impérissables.
Grâce aux principes de la conception universelle, le terrain de jeux inclut un surfaçage en caoutchouc, des rampes d’accès pour les personnes en fauteuil roulant, des stations de transfert pour que les enfants aient accès au matériel de terrain de jeux, des surfaces protectives et des balançoires adaptives.
Redéveloppement de terrains de jeux

Le redéveloppement de terrains de jeux du PIC150 inclut huit lieux listés ci-dessus. En remplaçant l’infrastructure vieillissante, la Ville a réaménagé ces terrains de jeux pour inclure de l’équipement de pointe et promouvoir la vie active par l’addition d’équipement de conditionnement physique en plein air.

Notre objectif est de transformer les terrains de jeux en lieux accessibles et favorables aux familles. Ces améliorations incluent des équipements de jeux d’accès facile, un surfaçage de fibre du bois et des rampes pour donner accès aux espaces de jeux et de la condition physique.

Réhabilitation de sentiers
Pour assurer que nos communautés sont liées et l’accessibilité sûre de notre réseau de parcs, l’entretien régulier des sentiers est nécessaire. La reconstruction de 14 sentiers aux emplacements inscrits ci-dessus sont entreprises en vue de répondre aux besoins des résidents pour le cyclisme, la course à pied et toutes sortes d’activités.
