Overview
The City is developing an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy (2024-2030) to expand our efforts to promote EDI and address racism and oppression within City initiatives, policies, procedures and practices.
We’ve partnered with the Diversity Institute to create the strategy. It will include a framework and actions across four key pillars:
- The City as an employer
- The City as a service provider
- The City as a policymaker
- The City as a buyer of goods and services
Public consultation
The City and the Diversity Institute are engaging with diverse communities on an ongoing basis while we work on the strategy. Collaborating with communities and understanding everyone’s experiences, perspectives and insights will help us better embed EDI into our work.

Project timeline
The project kicked off in April 2024, and the framework and action plan will be ready summer 2025.

- Administering EDI based recruitment and succession planning processes
- Implementing the City’s Workplace Psychological Health and Safety Strategy
- Meeting our obligations under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
