In progress City project

Creditview Road implementation strategy

During our engagement and consultation with residents in the area, the community raised questions about the impact of proposed changes across the study area.

The City’s completed analysis shows that proposed improvements along Creditview Road, including the addition of roundabouts and widening of the road to 4 lanes, will improve traffic conditions and pedestrian safety in the area.

Impact on traffic conditions

Traffic flow

Widening Creditview Road from 2 to 4 lanes will improve traffic conditions and will allow us to meet future capacity needs. It will also provide enough of a gap for vehicles to exit adjacent roads, including Kenninghall Boulevard/Crescent.

Our analysis shows that the long-term solution will minimize delays and queuing within the study area.

Speeding

Many vehicles exceed the posted speed limit of 60 kilometres per hour along this stretch of Creditview Road.

The long-term solution features consecutive roundabouts, which will significantly reduce vehicle speeding. The City has also committed to lowering the posted speed limit to 50 kilometres per hour. This will help prevent motorists from driving at too high speeds.

Pedestrian safety considerations

Roundabouts

Each leg of the roundabouts along Creditview Road will feature a dedicated crosswalk. Vehicles must yield to pedestrians at roundabouts, which are safer than signalized intersections.

Trail connection at the Credit River

Residents have asked whether a trail connection will be installed so that pedestrians can cross under the Creditview Road bridge at the Credit River.

While some members of the public are crossing Creditview Road at the Credit River, below the structure south of Velebit Court, this is unsafe. Warning signage has been posted at the bridge abutments to discourage use.

When crossing the river, use the intersection of Creditview Road and Kenninghall Boulevard/Crescent.
