In progress City project

Implementing the Cycling Master Plan

Stay up to date on the City’s Cycling Master Plan updates and on-going cycling and road safety projects.

The City is transforming into a bicycle-friendly city, where people can choose to cycle for fun, fitness and travel.

Overview

As we continue to build the cycling network, we regularly update the Cycling Master Plan (CMP) to make sure it reflects the needs and values of community members and meets City guidelines such as the Changing Lanes Complete Streets Guide and Vision Zero Action Plan.

The most recent update to the CMP was completed in 2026. We aimed to:

  • Update the City’s planned network to improve connections and follow new design guidance.
  • Develop a more equitable approach to implementing cycling facilities in the city.
  • Prioritize connections to create a continuous network of cycling infrastructure that accommodates all ages and abilities.
  • Make a five-year plan to connect the network.
  • Work with interested parties, residents and external partners so that our projects can be implemented and supported by the community.

Projects started as part of the previous update in 2018 remain ongoing. A full list of active projects can be found in the featured updates.

Public engagements

From June to July 2025, the City of Mississauga invited residents to help shape the Cycling Master Plan Update through a variety of engagement opportunities. These events and tools were designed to ensure broad community participation from all corners of the city.

  • The Online Survey and Mapping Tool let residents to share their experiences and ideas for improving cycling in Mississauga.
  • During the In-Person Open House, residents joined staff for an overview of the CMP Update and shared feedback directly with the project team.
  • At the Virtual Open House, residents joined a live online session to learn more about the CMP Update and ask questions.
  • Through four Community Pop-Up Events, we visited community centres to meet residents and gather feedback. These pop-ups provided informal settings for residents to contribute ideas and discuss cycling in their neighbourhoods.

Background

The Cycling Master Plan (CMP) was first developed in 2010 and guides planning for cycling across the city. It is a long-term document that maps out a cycling network of existing and proposed cycling facilities designed to make it easy and safe for people to ride their bicycles, electric bicycles, scooters and e-scooters around the city. The CMP also includes policies, programs, a map and plans to support the implementation and use of the cycling network by the residents and visitors to Mississauga.

The CMP is a guide for where future infrastructure should be built, and which policies and programs should be enacted to achieve the CMP’s vision. It is not a detailed design plan for facilities, or an authorization for construction. The CMP is not a financial commitment to fund construction of the cycling network or implement identified programs.
