Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT)

A public information session was held on September 25, 2018 to provide information on the recent changes to the Planning Act.

The changes to the Planning Act were introduced through Bill 139, “Building Better Communities and Conserving Watersheds Act, 2017” (the Act). The Act came into force on April 3, 2018.

The Act also replaced the Ontario Municipal Board with the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT), made changes to the appeal process, and created the Local Planning Appeal Support Centre, all of which are intended to give communities a stronger voice in land use planning.

For more information about the Act, please go to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing website.

The Government of Ontario decided to close the Local Planning Appeal Support Centre (LPASC) in early 2019. The LPASC will no longer be accepting new requests for professional services from the public and has until June 30, 2019 to wind down.
