In progress City project

McLaughlin Road corridor project

How the City will address neighbourhood concerns

The City plans to build cycling facilities on the boulevard, separate from motor vehicle traffic. Planned improvements include:

  • One-way track on both sides of McLaughlin Road from Britannia Road West to Matheson Boulevard West
  • Two-way multi-use trail on the west side of McLaughlin Road from Matheson Boulevard West to Bristol Road West

To ensure safety and priority of pedestrians and cyclists, the City plans to install new traffic signals at:

  • Regal  Drive
  • Avonwick Avenue
  • Faith Drive/Parkwood Place

The new traffic signals will provide pedestrians and cyclists their own designated crossings to safely cross the road.

The City has selected a design that will have the least impact to trees that front the Britannia Farm Sugar Bush and the least impact to existing trees within the boulevard. It also maximizes the number of trees that can be replanted within the McLaughlin Road corridor by narrowing the travel lanes and using a multi-use trail design between Matheson Boulevard West and Bristol Road West.

During the detailed design phase, the City will review each tree on a case by case basis to determine if there’s an opportunity save and replant more trees.

To address concerns involving speeding, the City will move the existing curbs inward between Matheson Boulevard and Bristol Road.

Narrowed lanes will accommodate transit and delivery vehicles, while slowing down vehicle travel speeds. Slowed down traffic will help keep all road users safe.
