Overview

The City is building a new bridge over the Credit River that will connect trails in the Lakeshore Road corridor. The bridge will offer a direct and easy way to walk, cycle, or skate to Memorial Park and the GO station and reduce demand for parking at these locations. This will free up parking for those travelling by car to the GO station.

Construction will take about 18 months from the start date.

Impact on the community

Construction staff will assemble the new bridge in a fenced-off area near the Royal Canadian Legion’s parking lot and Memorial Park. Once assembled, the bridge will be launched over the Credit River.

Some City infrastructure and natural areas may be impacted during the construction.

During construction:

  • Front Street (north from the Royal Canadian Legion to Mississauga Road) and the two sidewalks are closed
  • Driveways for residents are open and accessible
  • MiWay transit services aren’t impacted
  • Royal Canadian Legion will be accessible via Front Street and Park Street West

Through the project, we will:

  • Plant more than 125 trees native to Mississauga
  • Remove about 81 trees, including many invasive species
  • Prune about 14 trees if needed

The arena parking lot will remain open during construction. Contractors and construction vehicles will use the parking lot to access the construction site during off-peak hours only.

Events will continue to take place at Memorial Park, but the northwest portion of the park will be unavailable due to construction.

Construction will take place along the riverbanks in the construction area. While the Credit River will remain open from June to September, rowers must stay five metres away from the shoreline in the work zone.

Full river closer (if needed) may happen around September and will last only a day or two. Visit this page for schedule updates.
