In progress City project

School Streets

Two Mississauga schools will take part in Mississauga's extended School Streets pilot project, creating safe and community-friendly spaces for residents to get to school.

Corliss Public School is one of more than 25 schools across Canada to run a School Street for the 2025-2026 school year. The City will announce a second school for 2026‑2027 in early 2026.

Why School Streets?

School Streets create temporary car-free zones in front of schools during drop-off and/or pickup times. The purpose of the pilot is to demonstrate that closing school drop-off and pickup areas to vehicles leads to a safer and more enjoyable drop-off and pickup experience. This builds on the successful three-week pilot in Mississauga in spring 2022.

School Streets:

  • Improve road safety
  • Reduce traffic congestion
  • Create opportunities for kids to be active
  • Encourage active travel to school
  • Benefit mental health and focus at school
  • Improve air quality at and around schools
  • Build community

Outreach and engagement

In spring 2025, the City delivered letters to local residents and convened a project planning team of local community members to plan the project together.

A soft launch is also planned for Friday, June 20, when the road will be closed for a street party held by Corliss Public School. The rain date for this event is scheduled for June 23.
