If you own a dog or cat in Mississauga, you must buy a pet licence and renew it when required. If your pet is not licensed, you may be fined.
You can buy a new 1- or 2-year pet licence, or renew an existing licence online.
Call 905-896-5858 Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. You must pay the licence fee by credit card, Debit Mastercard or Visa Debit.
To apply for a new licence, visit the Animal Services Shelter to submit a completed Pet Licence Application.
To renew an existing pet licence, bring the renewal notice that you received to the shelter.
To apply for a new licence by mail, send a completed Pet Licence Application and a cheque in the amount of the licence fee, made payable to Mississauga Animal Services, to:

You must provide valid ID if you are 65 years of age or older.
Veterinarian information is required for spayed or neutered dogs and cats.
All cats and dogs must be licensed, but some may be eligible for fee exemptions.
Service animals are specially trained dogs and other animals that assist people with disabilities such as vision or hearing impairments. They can be identified by specifically marked harnesses.
There is no licence fee for service dogs, but you must provide documentation when you apply for the licence. The documentation should certify that the service animal has completed an accredited animal training program. Contact Animal Services for more information.
Therapy animals must be prescribed by a doctor to qualify for a fee exemption. When you apply for a licence, you must submit a letter, typed on official physician letterhead, indicating that the dog or cat is prescribed for medical reasons. The letter must be dated and signed by the physician.
Animal Services will review the documentation and determine whether the animal is eligible for a fee exemption.

If you’ve lost your pet’s tag, you can buy a replacement tag. Call 905‑896‑5858 or visit the Animal Services Shelter in person.
If you no longer have your pet, email mypet.info@mississauga.ca or call 905‑896‑5858 to cancel your pet licence.
A pet licence is your pet’s identification and must be visible on your pet’s collar. It contains information about your pet that helps Animal Services return your pet if it goes missing.
