You don’t require a building permit to widen a driveway, but you do need to follow these regulations.
Widening a driveway
The zoning of your property will dictate how wide your driveway can be and the minimum landscaped soft area required. To find your zone, check the zoning restrictions for your property using the find property information tool.
If you’re widening your driveway on the boulevard or where your driveway meets the street, you need to request a new curb cut (access modification).
General driveway requirements
The by-law has general provisions that apply to all properties, they dictate requirements for walkways, setback to property lines and other restrictions for driveways. Check the general provisions for driveways and parking in subsection 4.1.9 of the Zoning By-law.
The zoning of your property might have additional regulations fro driveways. Review the general provisions, and then check the zoning regulations for your property using the find property information tool.
If something in the general provisions conflicts with the zoning regulations for your property, follow the zoning regulations.
You can find information on surface treatment in article 3.1.1.7 of the Zoning By-law.
