You can apply for a taxi driver’s licence online. To renew your licence, update your information or check your application status online, log in to your account and manage your licence.
Apply in person
You can schedule an appointment to apply for or renew your licence in person using our online reservation system.
- Complete the Driver/Operator Licence Application to apply for a new licence or the Licence Renewal Application to renew an existing licence.
- Gather the required documents and approvals.
- Book an appointment online for a new licence or a licence renewal.
- Bring your application and supporting documents to your appointment.
- Pay the licence fees and your licence will be issued.
Apply by mail
To renew your licence by mail, send a completed Licence Renewal Application, your supporting documents and a cheque payable to the City of Mississauga to:

Licence requirements
You must be 18 years of age or older to apply. In addition to a completed application, you must provide the following documents and approvals:
- Proof of eligibility to work in Canada, such as Canadian citizenship, landed immigrant status or a valid work permit
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence (Class G minimum)
- Ontario driver’s record completed in the last 30 days
- Criminal record check by a Canadian police service issued in the last 60 days
- Name of the taxi brokerage you’re working for
- A photo of you, taken by us if you apply in person or uploaded by you if you apply online. Photos must:
- Be clear, sharp and in focus with no shadows or glare
- Have your face and shoulders centred in the photo, looking at the camera with a neutral expression
Renewal requirements
Your licence will expire annually on your birthday. If you don’t renew your taxi driver’s licence within one year of the expiry date, you’ll have to reapply as a new applicant.
A renewal notice will be sent to the email address on file. If no email is available, it will be sent to the mailing address on record.
To renew your licence, you must submit the following documents:
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence (Class G minimum)
- Ontario driver’s record (provided by the Mobile Licensing Office and included in your renewal fee)
- Criminal record check by a Canadian police service issued in the last 60 days (drivers who are not currently active, or non-driving status, won’t need a criminal record search)
Licence fees
A new taxi driver’s licence costs $212.54.
The fee to renew your licence is $192.59.
Fees are payable by cheque, debit or credit card.
To apply for a taxicab owner’s licence, you’ll need to submit:
- Owner Licence Application completed by the business owner, partner, president or an authorized agent (if applying as a corporation, the applicant must hold 51% of the voting rights)
- Articles of incorporation and/or business registration documents, if applying as a company
- Provincial permit for the vehicle
- Certificate of insurance with a minimum $2 million coverage endorsed to the City of Mississauga
- Lease agreement, if your vehicle is leased
- Motor vehicle liability insurance card and one of the following:
- Ministry of Transportation vehicle inspection report that shows the vehicle has been accepted within 60 days
- Safety standard certificate issued within 60 days
Your vehicle must be inspected at the Mobile Licensing Office before your licence can be issued.
Renewing your owner’s licence
Your taxi owner’s licence will expire every year on February 28. A renewal notice will be mailed to the address we have on file for you.
If you’re a driver as well as an owner, your taxi driver’s licence will also expire on February 28.
To renew your licence, you’ll need to submit the following documents and pay your renewal fee:
- Licence Renewal Application
- Valid master business name registration, if applicable
- Certificate of insurance with a minimum $2 million coverage and endorsed to the City of Mississauga
If you don’t renew your taxi owner’s licence within a year of the expiry date, you’ll have to reapply as a new applicant.

A taxi owner’s licence issued from the priority list costs $1,189.98.
Transferring a taxi owner’s licence from a previous owner costs $1,473.00.
The fee to renew your taxi owner’s licence is $529.70.
