Join the Community Group Registry Program

The Community Group Registry Program is designed to support not-for-profit, volunteer-based community groups, organizations and clubs.

Becoming a registered group gives you access to:

  • Discounts to rent space at community centres and City facilities
  • Permission to place promotional mobile signs next to City roads
  • General liability insurance through the City’s affiliate insurance program, if eligible
  • Community grants and funding

Eligible groups

Review the different categories of groups that are eligible for the program.

Includes non-profit social service organizations, religious organizations, service clubs, preschools, general interest clubs or Mississauga-based groups that are charter members of a provincial or national non-profit organization.

Residency requirements

  • 70% of the group’s members and registered participants must be residents of Mississauga
  • For approved regional groups, 30% of the group’s members and registered participants must be residents of Mississauga

  • Discounted community group rental rate for facilities and equipment
  • Discounted community rate for Special Event Vendor Licences
  • Permission to place promotional mobile signs next to a City road
  • Use of the Registered Group Civic Mark on your group’s promotional materials like your website, posters or flyers
  • Priority booking for City facilities and parks

Provider: A group that provides direct programs or service delivery for children, youth and/or adults that align with the City’s Recreation Division mandate and strategic master plans.

Club: A social club for the leisure and recreational communal benefit of Mississauga residents.

Residency requirements

  • 80% of the group’s members and registered participants must be residents of Mississauga
  • For approved regional groups, 30% of the group’s members and registered participants must be residents of Mississauga

  • Discounted affiliate group rental rate for facilities and equipment
  • One free room rental per month for executive meetings
  • One free room rental per year for your annual general meeting
  • Access to a City liaison
  • Discounted community rate for Special Event Vendor Licences

Provider: A group that provides direct arts, culture or heritage programs or service delivery for children, youth and/or adults that align with the City’s Culture Division mandate and strategic master plans.

Club: A social club for the art and cultural communal benefit of Mississauga residents.

Residency requirements

  • 80% of the group’s members and registered participants must be residents of Mississauga
  • For approved regional groups, 30% of the group’s members and registered participants must be residents of Mississauga

Benefits

  • Discounted affiliate group rental rate for facilities and equipment
  • One free room rental per month for executive meetings
  • One free room rental per year for your annual general meeting
  • Access to a City liaison
  • Discounted community rates for special event vendor licences

Provider: A group that provides direct programs or service delivery for older adults that align with the City’s Recreation Division mandate and strategic master plans.

Club: A social club operated by Mississauga older adults for the leisure or social benefit of older adults who live in the City.

Residency and membership requirements

  • 90% of the group’s members and registered participants must be residents of Mississauga and be 55 or older
  • Groups must have a minimum of 50 members and/or registered participants
  • Older adult providers and clubs cannot have regional group status

  • One free room rental per month for executive meetings
  • One free room rental per year for your annual general meeting
  • Access to a City liaison
  • Discounted community rate for Special Event Vendor Licences

A Mississauga-based sport group that delivers league-based programs and/or services that directly benefit Mississauga residents and align with the City’s Recreation Division mandate and strategic master plans.

If 80% of your members are youth, and the group is sanctioned by a sport governing body, your group is not eligible to be a community sport provider.

  • 80% of the group’s members and registered participants must be residents of Mississauga
  • For approved regional groups, 55% must be residents of Mississauga
  • Groups must have a minimum of 50 registered participants annually

  • One free room rental per month for executive meetings
  • One free room rental per year for your annual general meeting
  • Discounted community rate for Special Event Vendor Licences
  • Permission to place a promotional mobile sign next to a City road

  • Allocation benefits under the Outdoor Sports Field Management Policy and the Arena Ice/Floor Allocation Policy
  • Use of the Registered Group Civic Mark on your group’s promotional materials like your website, posters or flyers

A Mississauga-based group sanctioned by the sport’s governing body, which provides organized league-based sport activities and/or services primarily to youth ages 21 and under, that align with the City’s Recreation Division mandate and strategic master plans.

Adult leagues or programs within an affiliated sport group can only comprise 20% of the group and will be categorized as a “community sport provider”.

Residency and membership requirements

  • 90% of the group’s members and registered participants must be residents of Mississauga or meet residency requirements approved by the Director of Recreation
  • For approved regional groups, 55% must be residents of Mississauga
  • Groups must have a minimum of 50 registered participants annually

  • Discounted adult community group rental rate or youth affiliate rental rate for facilities and equipment
  • One free room rental per month for executive meetings
  • One free room rental per year for your annual general meeting
  • Discounted community rate for Special Event Vendor Licences
  • Permission to place a promotional mobile sign next to a City road

Neighbourhood associations that strengthen and support resident engagement and provide opportunities for greater active participation in the local community by delivering one or more neighbourhood-based activities, programs or events.

Residency and membership requirements

  • All group members and registered participants must be residents of Mississauga
  • Must have a clearly defined membership with geographic boundaries
  • Must have one or more neighbourhood based activity, program, or event that supports the City’s strategic master plans

Provider: A group that provides environmental, education and stewardship programs, which could include naturalization, horticulture, gardening, and urban agriculture that align with the City’s Parks and Forestry mandate and strategic master plans.

Club: A social club for the environmental and naturalization benefit of Mississauga.

Residency requirements

  • 80% of the group’s members and registered participants must be residents of Mississauga
  • For approved regional groups, 30% must be residents of Mississauga

  • One free room rental per month for executive meetings
  • One free room rental per year for your annual general meeting
  • Access to a City liaison

A Mississauga-based social club operated by youth 21 years of age and under that is for the leisure or social benefit of youth who are residents of Mississauga. The club’s activities must align with the City’s Recreation Division mandate and strategic master plans.

Youth clubs cannot receive regional status.

How to apply

After you’ve determined your group’s category, and you meet the residency requirements, review the policy requirements in the Community Group Registry Program Policy.

If your group meets all the requirements, complete the Statement of Interest Form online. We’ll contact you within four to six weeks to discuss next steps.

If you’re not sure whether your group fits into any of these categories, or you’re starting a new community group but you don’t meet all of the eligibility or policy requirements yet, complete the Statement of Interest Form anyway. We’ll contact you to discuss your group.
