You can apply for a rebate of up to $7,500 to help with the cost of installing basement flooding prevention measures.
Applications are being accepted as of February 12, 2025.
To be eligible for a basement flooding prevention rebate you must:
All measures must be installed by a qualified contractor with a valid City of Mississauga business licence. Call 311 (905-615-4311 outside city limits) to confirm your contractor is licensed.
Protection measures may not be appropriate for non-standard foundation drain connections. If your foundation drain connects to the sanitary sewer, you must consult with the Region of Peel before submitting a rebate application.
Condo townhomes often share foundation drains, unlike freehold properties. Pre-consultation with the City and authorization from the condo board are required before submitting an application.
Sump pump installations must connect the foundation drain (weeping tile) to the sump pit and disconnect the existing foundation drain pipe (capping) and the downspouts.
The maximum rebate you can apply for is $7,500.
Basement prevention measure |
Maximum rebate per measure |
---|---|
Sump pump | $6,000 |
Foundation drain (weeping tile) pipe capping | $1,000 |
Downspout disconnection | $125 each (up to $500 total) |
Storm lateral backwater valve (must also disconnect downspouts) | $1,500 |
Eligible costs include contractor labour, material and taxes. Consulting or inspection costs such as CCTV used to determine appropriate measures are also eligible.
Unused rebate amounts from one prevention measure cannot be used to cover the cost of other work. For example, if you only use $5,000 on your sump pump, you can’t use the remaining $1,000 towards something else.
Retroactive applications are for measures installed between July 16, 2024 and February 11, 2025. The City must receive retroactive applications by August 1, 2025.
