Report an encampment

Encampments are temporary settlements where unhoused or unsheltered people stay, usually due to a lack of affordable housing options. These settlements typically form on public or private property, often without permission.

How we respond

Every time an encampment is reported, the local Encampment Response Team follows a set process.

We may respond by:

  • Inspecting encampments
  • Conducting wellness checks
  • Supporting individuals with access to shelter, housing options and other services
  • Cleaning up litter

Not all reports result in the immediate removal of encampments.

How to report

  • For encampments or excessive litter in a park, call 311
  • For illegal activity or a health emergency, call 911
  • For concerns for someone living on the street, call 1-877-848-8481 (Street Helpline)

Do not report the issue more than once or in different ways. Duplicate reports can cause delays.

What happens next

No further action is needed on your end once you report an encampment or related concerns.

Reports made to 311 will be addressed by the team including staff from:

  • Peel Region
  • City of Mississauga
  • Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services
  • Peel Regional Police
  • Peel Outreach

It may take the team some time to address all reports of encampments and you may not see immediate action. Avoid reporting the same issue more than once, as duplicate reports can delay our response to all cases.
