Green development standard

The green development standard are measures used by developers to achieve environmentally, socially and economically sustainable design and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The City has updated our standard to a framework of mandatory and voluntary measures to meet goals in our Climate Change Action Plan. Council approved the update in April 2024.

Standards by development type

All new residential and non-residential site plan approval applications submitted on or after March 1, 2025, have to comply with the Tier 1 green development standard.

The Tier 2 standard will be mandatory in 2028 and Tier 3 standard in 2030. They are voluntary until then.
